Douma Prayer Letter (June 2021)

Greetings to all!

Sola is an active and busy place! In April we had 7 overnight hiker guests and in May we had 44 more—our biggest month ever! We had many great conversations with these hikers.  In some cases we joined together in singing hymns, and in others we prayed for them before they departed.

This Spring we also had a nice visit from Priscilla’s grandfather, Clarence. We were also blessed by the visit from Eric and Natty Lasch, from the Bible Presbyterian Church on Grand Island, who volunteered for a week in May.  Among other tasks accomplished during their visit, Eric and Doug built the first of, hopefully, many garden boxes on our property.

We’ve been keeping busy with laundry, making beds, cleaning, while maintaining and improving our space for hikers. Earlier this spring, Doug completed a renovation of our master bathroom, and soon we will have a wood stove and metal chimney installed to reduce our winter heating bills.

In the Spring, we made a two-week trip to various places in the south as far as Atlanta, Georgia, to visit family and friends and to speak about Sola and preach at Reedy River BPC in South Carolina. Doug also preached at the Bible Presbyterian Church on Grand Island during their holy week conference, and another Sunday preached the evening service at the Hudson Valley United Reformed Church.

At our own home church of Unionville we’ve been blessed with many new visitors. We pray that this has been in part due to the special effort we’ve been making to be involved in the community. Recently, we put on a neighborhood BBQ bonfire with 35 attending and the next day led an Appalachian Trail hike with a dozen joining in. Then, Doug, as the pastor of the church and chaplain of the local volunteer fire department, gave prayers at two local events on Memorial Day.

How you can pray for us:

We continue to be blessed with frequent new visitors to our village church, Unionville Presbyterian. Pray for our visiting attendance to be more regular and for many to seek membership in the church.

Baby #2 is due in July. Pray for health of mother and baby.

Pray that we can keep up with the steady stream of hikers coming through our mission as well as all our other responsibilities!

Lastly, prayerfully consider a financial donation to our ministry or ask your church to consider becoming a supporter of Sola! All our financial donors will be receiving our new “yellow” bandanas this Fall. We greatly appreciate all our supporters. Thank you for your gifts and prayers!
