Let me begin by asking a few questions. First, how do you feel when you have been in the field over ten years, but there are only a few fruits from your labors? Second, how do you feel when you help many people, both physically and spiritually, but later they stop coming to church and fall away from the Lord? How do you feel when your church members forsake the Lord? These types of events and questions really happen in the mission field of Cambodia, especially in Kpbaom where I have been working.
One Sunday I was amazed by the confession of Mr. Srong after he heard the message from John 6:61-70. He said, “When I started the mission many people came to the church. And there were many families or children that I helped out, including education and material things, but there is not much fruit remaining with me now. They forsake me and the Lord. Moreover, they persecute, hate, and are jealous over me. These events make me so upset that I live in a painful life of ministry. I try with all my ability in the field, but it does not have much effect. Still I continue to teach and share the Good News to them until this day; I am hopeless and not happy with what I am doing. I feel like I am not qualified for the work of God, but now I understand. It is God who works and chooses people.” He continued by saying that he was really thankful for the awakening message that I preached. It really touched his heart and heals his feeling. By verse 65 he knows that there is only God alone who enables the heart of man. In verse 66 many disciples turned back and no longer follow Jesus. Verse 67 Jesus asked his chosen disciple, “You do not want to leave too, do you?” And what a wonderful and amazing example in the answer of Peter, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the word of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy one of God.”
After I heard his confession I was so happy. Thank God that He led me to preach this message to them. Thank God that Mr. Srong’s mind has been healed, and he continues to teach the word with hope and happiness in God’s work. Lastly I am really thankful and appreciate all the sponsors of this ministry! Thank you for all your support, both spiritual and material.
