Short-Term Missions

"Team Timothy" is part of PMU's short-term missions arm. Open to Bible Presbyterian young people and adults, as well as to members of sister churches, our short-term mission teams exist for four main purposes: to witness of Christ to those who do not know Him, to give spiritual encouragement as a team to missionaries and pastors laboring for Christ by providing extra hands in needed projects, to provide an opportunity for believers to consider missionary service in a hands-on environment, and disciple the team members with an aim of encouraging a missionary heart and burden for the lost of the world. As team members seek to aid the brethren in other places and proclaim the gospel, they leave their comfort zones behind and learn to depend upon the Lord for everything they do. Our teams are not about "missions tourism" but rather are characterized by long hours, hard work, and vital ministry. Everyone pulls their weight and then some. We field teams both overseas and in the US. Here you can find information about past teams, as well as explore the options for current and future opportunities.
Soli Deo Gloria English Camp is held annually in Aldeia, Brazil under the leadership of our missionary, Rev. Doug Leaman, working together with a camp staff of Brazilian believers who speak English, other leaders from America, and team members who are native English speakers. It is open to Bible Presbyterian young people and adults, as well as to members of sister churches. Participating in English Camp provides an opportunity to experience cross-cultural ministry, increase connection with our PMU missionaries in Brazil and provide a source of in-person encouragement to the Leaman family. English Camp teams fill a variety of roles related to camp ministry such as teaching English, leading crafts, games, and various workshops, and engaging in English conversations with campers. Other projects to improve the property and ministry in Brazil may also be part of the English Camp experience. You can find more information about this ministry and applications here on this page.
Each summer, Rev. Doug Douma employs the help of a summer intern with SOLA Appalachian Christian Retreat. This is a paid summer internship, typically 10 weeks long, that provides many opportunities to experience what mission work looks like in the daily life of one of our PMU missionaries. If you are considering pursuing a life of full-time mission work, this is a great way to get your feet wet! Pastor Doug provides a hospitality ministry to hikers along the Appalachian Trail and is also the pastor of Unionville Presbyterian Church (BPC). Working alongside him and his family, you will have the opportunity to do various tasks, such as welcoming Appalachian Trail hikers, making beds and doing laundry, hosting pancake breakfasts, evangelistic conversations and praying with hikers. Other tasks may include gardening, posting updates on the SOLA website, writing thank-you notes to donors, and assisting with facility maintenance or improvements. As the intern, you would also be expected to attend all stated meetings of the local Bible Presbyterian Church (Sunday morning service, Sunday evening service, and Wednesday evening prayer). Total work expectation is 40 hours per week, with at least one day off in addition to minimal work on Sundays.
The deadline to apply for the summer 2025 internship is October 31st.
