Myanmar 2025-a

Church Planting in Myanmar

by a Pastor in Myanmar
the Missions Banner:  February/March, 2025

January 15, 2025 was the 18th anniversary of the Bible Presbyterian church in Myanmar. When I look back at the history of the church, I can’t help but praise God for all that He’s done for and through the church. I would like to present to you in this article how the church plants are going so you may know better how to pray for the mission works in Myanmar.

The first Bible Presbyterian Church was started in 2006. It was like a small seed sprouting in a big farm. But now we see it is growing and bearing fruits. It has 70 -120 attendance every Sunday. It has three mission stations and six daughter churches have been planted – one in the North, two in Central Myanmar, and three in the South, where there is also an orphanage center, a pre-school, and a theological training program.

The church in the North was born through the effort of my father who organized friends and relatives to form a BP church. Though the church was active and growing, the military coup has damaged the church badly. Due to the civil war, most of the church members have moved to India. Most of them still remain there where they find a better life and education for the children. One of our orphanage graduates is taking care of the people who have come back home.

Members of the first church in Central Myanmar were formally Buddhists. They become Christians through our evangelist work. The Church is growing. It has built a sanctuary. Unfortunately, they could not have worship service on Sunday due to the civil war. Many have temporarily moved to other places to avoid the war. The believers at the second daughter church here are also in good condition. So far, the civil war has no direct effect. Please continue to pray for them as they are trying to obtain a lot (land) so that they can also build a sanctuary.

One of the churches in the South was started through the effort of one of our deacons who studied at my Bible class as well as a Bible seminary run by Bible Presbyterians in Malaysia. The church is growing so well. It has around 40 church members now. The second church was also started by one of our elders who is leading the church now. This church is also growing. It has 35 members now. One of our Church deacons joined my Bible class and graduated. After he continued his studies at a Theological School he started a church. The church has 35 church members and is growing.

We have 25 children at the orphanage this year. One of the hardest things we used to face at the orphanage home is the need to move here and there almost every year due to the difficulty of finding a suitable house. But the Lord has solved the problem through PMU support. Now we have bought land (a lot) and a 2-story concrete building. The children enjoy life and are so happy to live there.  A Pre-school was also started in partnership with our Church. This ministry is also going well. It has 25 children right now as well.

My long-lasting burden has been training the young people who have a desire to serve the Lord but do not have the theological foundation and practical knowledge needed for the ministry. The Lord enabled me to start a Bible class. Now more than 50 students have graduated. Most of them are actively serving the Lord and many of them are successful in planting churches. I also have the Western Reformed Seminary approved training course as the ordination class for the church planters. We are so blessed by the teaching of Dr. Kevin and Dr. Len, Rev. Ed and Rev. Mark. The subjects they have taught are very important and so foundational for the wellbeing and the growth of the BP church in Myanmar.

As I observe all these, one thing I know for sure is that we have come this far not because we are deserving, but because of God’s grace alone. I also deeply appreciate your partnership. God has blessed us through your prayer and partnership. God who has been faithful to us in the past will surely be faithful in the future. Let us rejoice in the Lord and let’s serve Him with gladness and fear.
