the Missions Banner, June/July 2025
Below is an overview of the situation in Myanmar. Please be in prayer for these things.
2025 is widely recognized as a very difficult year for Myanmar, due to a combination of factors, including ongoing conflict, economic hardship, political uncertainties, and natural disasters.
Myanmar is in its fourth year of intensified conflict, with no immediate resolution in sight. The conflict has led to widespread displacement, with 3.5 million internally displaced persons. Over 1.1 million refugees are hosted in neighboring countries. The earthquake compounded an already dire humanitarian situation, with millions of people in need of assistance and existing displacement issues worsening. Myanmar’s economy is struggling, with high inflation, and low foreign investment. Unemployment and poverty are elevated. Prices of essential goods, such as rice, have increased significantly. The World Bank projects it will shrink further in 2025. The 7.9 magnitude earthquake on March 28th caused significant damage and loss of life, making it one of the worst in Myanmar’s recent history.
Please pray that we may receive resilience and strength from God, and know His kindness and presence in the midst of hardship. Pray for comfort for the bereaved. Pray that we may extend our helping hands to the affected people. One of our churches sent three volunteers who brought aid to the earthquake affected families in Inlay. The possibility of elections in 2025, the first since the 2021 military takeover, could further destabilize the country and potentially lead to increased violence. Myanmar needs urgent international support to address the humanitarian crisis, stabilize the economy, and work towards a more peaceful and sustainable future.
Thank you for your ongoing prayers.
